Based in Ottawa, Grounded Ceremonies is a small, woman and queer-owned wedding officiant business that specializes in personalized, custom ceremonies for all adults in love. Whether you’re planning a 300-person luxury wedding or a laid-back backyard elopement, Karen, Kat, and JL are there to craft a ceremony that feels entirely you. Every script is intentionally written, every moment thoughtfully designed to reflect who you are as a couple – no cookie-cutter vows here.
💍 From Wedding Planner to ONtario and Quebec Wedding Officiant
Before founding Grounded Ceremonies, Karen spent a decade as a wedding planner, so she knows the rhythm and flow of a wedding day inside and out. That experience shines through in her calm presence, attention to detail, and genuine understanding of what couples need to feel grounded (pun intended!) on such a big day.
As a queer and woman-owned business, inclusion and authenticity are at the heart of Grounded Ceremonies. Karen and her team believe that everyone deserves a ceremony that celebrates love in its truest form – warm, personal, and unapologetically unique.

Fun fact: I’ve been a competitive curler for most of my life…I actually knew Fiona’s husband before her and I met! My wife (Kat) and I eloped in Toronto before our cottage wedding with our friends and family. We went to Wonderland, got married, and then enjoyed some champagne and what turned out to be the world’s best chicken wings at our hotel bar! 😄

Karen also recently launched the Canadian School of Wedding Officiants to train the next generation of professional, modern officiants across Canada—a testament to her passion for raising the standard of wedding ceremonies nationwide.
