Modern Boho Wedding | Backyard Styled Shoot
I had been thinking about doing a styled shoot again after the first one on International Women’s Day this year but I was hesitant about reaching out to vendors when we weren’t supposed to be seeing very many people at all. So, the idea of the backyard photo shoot was born! Taking inspiration from a style that I love to have for dinner parties and potentially a future rehearsal dinner for Mac and I, I call this style “modern boho”. With wood accents, outdoor furniture, and a tight colour palette, this style leans into a mix of the traditional bohemian relaxed vibe with some modernity.
The Modern Boho Style
Since the pandemic hit all over the world and a lot of things have paused or drastically changed in the wedding world, I’ve been busy working with clients and vendors to shuffle some of this year’s weddings. We’ve also been working on modifying how the ones still happening will look. I’ve also been busy working on my business since there’s less in person wedding work at the moment!
Considering that I officially “launched” Fiona Lau Events just over a month before the pandemic made its way over to North America – I’ve had lots of time to delve into the back end of it all and stretch some creative fingers (boho or otherwise!)! This – at least – is something I have control over in a time that is so uncertain. I miss face to face interactions, I miss the rush of weddings, and I miss the joy that comes with helping people celebrate their magical moment!
The Cake
If you’ve spent some time with me, you’ll know that I’m a big FAN of food. I even have a food blog with comfort food recipes! I thought that it would be fun to experiment with a new flavour combination that would suit this modern boho theme. This one is a Rosemary Buttercream Cake with Lemon Curd from The Little Epicurean. The cake was garnished with candied pecans for “soil” and rosemary sprig “trees”. Thyme was used around the cake. It was such a hit! (Lots of love for my fiancé who gave me a lot of help that day, cake and otherwise!) We spent a bunch of time the day before trying to find the right cake pan size and then finally giving up and just using the ones I had already at home haha.
It was so much fun to play around in my own backyard with this boho style! I hope it gives you some inspiration for a dinner party! This also works for a rehearsal dinner or any other happy celebration.
I’d love to hear your thoughts below and let me know what other theme I could try next!
